Zumba


1.       What did you learn about “lifelong wellness” from taking this activity class?

I learned many things about lifelong wellness from taking this class. I learned that "fad diets" aren't very effective and can even be unhealthy and dangerous to your body. You can eat what you want as long as you eat in moderation, and exercise daily. That way I can keep a healthy balance in my life. Also, I learned the dangers that can come from stretching, or working out too hard before you have had an appropriate "warm up". It is easy to pull a muscle, or strain your ligaments if you stretch when your muscles are still cold, or work out hard right from the start without warming your body up slowly first. I have also learned that when you are just walking and talking with a friend, it is actually npot doing much for your body as you may think. You are not burning calories effectively unless when you try to talk you are out of breath. So if you want to actually work-out we need to be doing it the right way. This class has given me the opportunity to work my body out and feel good twice a week, because without this class, I wouldn't have done any exercising.

2.       How would you apply this information to your life?

I will apply this information to my life by balancing my diet and exercise even after the semester ends and I'm not required to go to this class for a good grade. I will be proactive in making it a priority to do some exercise at least 2-3 times a week. Also, I will make sure that I eat in moderation, and not binge eat or eat routinely. I will make sure when I do work-out that I will stay away from popular belief and make sure I don't stretch till after I have done a proper warm-up. Exercising makes both my body and mind feel great, and I will put this routine into my schedule so that when I am feeling stressed, or over-worked I will work-out instead of letting my aggression out on eating or any other unhealthy activity. I will keep the information I learned in my life.


3.       What is your intention to continue to exercise in your life and why?
My intention to continue to exercise in my life is to keep living a healthy and happy life. I want to be able to look in the mirror without cringing, and look at myself with pride knowing I worked for this the healthy/natural way. I also want to continue exercising to feel good, the way I felt after a session of zumba was amazing. I felt like I truly did something nice for my body, and in return it was going to do something nice for me, and that is to lose inches! I love the way zumba combines dance movements with exercise actions so it makes it something fun, not like something you "have"to do. Music always makes working out a better activity and making dance moves to that that are easy and productive gie for a great time!

4.       General ideas for improving this course?

I don't really have many ideas for improving this course. I thought the work-outs were effective and the lectues were informative. I didn't just work-out, I learned a lot that I can take with me in the future.
