 Reflection

1-      This assignment did change the way I think about science because I always thought science had to do with more complicated subjects like cells, body organs, medicine, or anything medical or anything related to space, or the like. What I learned doing my article which was in the science section, was that it was extremely related to me, and not complex at all. It was about whether or not it is right to train your child, which is relatable to any parent who knows nothing about science. I did not see too much of any public policy debate, but the article did show the stances of two different people on the subject. One was for sleep training, but seemed bias as she ran a sleep training consulting program, the other was against, she was an author so I didn't feel her responses was biased. I wasn’t surprised by their advocacy because they said sleep training wasn't for everybody.

2-      Since humanities is the study of how people process and document the human experience this could be connected to that discipline. That is connected by the articles explanation of mothers experiences of how often they are woken by their babies throughout the night. It talks about how mothers think if their child wakes up, there must be an underlying reason for it when its really normal for them to wake at night.

3-      This class has impacted my views on science as a whole by opening my eyes to the reality that science is a part of our everyday life. Its in the food we eat, by how it is produced with GMO’s which I have always thought were bad for you but there are actually some that are good for you. Science is in our bodies with every breath we take and every beat of our hearts. It is especially amazing to me to learn all the processes and steps our bodies take to reproduce and it all happens without us knowing till the woman takes a pregnancy test. Science also helps us understand the impacts on the planet, how the sun radiates heat and energy to the Earth. However, because of the effects of global warming, greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels, and deforestation traps heat which would usually escape Earth. This is creating an increase in temperatures in Earth’s surface, oceans, and atmosphere. There is so much to learn in science and so much still not known!
